Jennifer R. Banas, Ed.D., M.S.Ed. MA
Department Chair and Dean of Education
Welcome to the Curriculum and Instruction program at the American College of Education. You have
chosen to pursue a Master's degree program that is designed to empower educators with research-based
tools to become effective teacher-leaders within their school communities. This professionally-focused
degree centers on tightly-integrated and application-based curriculum that aligns with national standards
and core competencies. A special feature of the program is the incorporation of technology in its
delivery, a critical component for teacher-leaders in the 21st century.
Our program in Curriculum and Instruction aligns with the five core propositions of the National Board
for Professional Teaching Standards. Those propositions include: a commitment to students and their
learning; knowledge about the subjects taught and how to teach those subjects to students; responsibility
for managing and monitoring student learning; dedication to thinking systematically about one’s practice
and learning from experience; and engaging members of learning communities.
The American College of Education provides an innovative, enriching, collaborative learning experience that
includes curriculum developed by experts in the field, the American College of Education Learning System,
opportunities for professional collaboration, and ongoing support from faculty and staff. As an American College of Education
faculty member, I look forward to sharing these learning experiences with you, supporting your academic and
professional needs, and following your growth as you progress through our program.
Sincerely,
Jennifer R. Banas, EdD, MSEd, MPH
